Molecular Barn Dance

When I was a boy, my brother-in-law took me and my dad to visit the mile long Stanford Linear Electron Accelerator. It blew me away. Not literally, or I would be little floaty bits of dust.

Since then I have often played around with circular images. I find them provoking and comforting. Circles are a continuum. They are everywhere. Atoms, molecules, the pupils of your eye, Charlie Brown's head, planets, the sun, wheels, B.B's, pancakes etc.

A collector in Switzerland has the original of this painting. I had Swiss chocolate, a Fuji apple, and Ugandan coffee for breakfast. That's sort of circular...

Circles are comforting....especially Charlie Brown's head! I always feel a bit bad for old Chuck at this time of year. Oh, how I would wait and wait until the Peanuts Halloween Special would come on the television! And, then I'd feel so bad for Charlie Brown, always getting a rock. How could grown-ups do that to a kid?

One of the first "heads-up" that life just isn't fair...........

You got me thinking about circles as I was eating my breakfast this morning. They're such a natural shape - not like squares or triangles, which usually only come manmade. They say, though, that if someone can draw a perfect circle freehand it's a sign they're insane :)

And then there's that book "The Dot." Love that one...

Shelley, that's funny, but you're right: Peanuts did give us a heads up that life ain't fair. Lucy was so mean to Charles.

O.K., Kitty, now you've got me nervous. Can I draw a perfect circle? Or am I intentionally messing it up? I think that if you worry whether or not you're nuts, then you're not. Nutsos don't have a clue. It's like Bob Wiley said in the movie,*What About Bob* "If I fake it (Tourette's syndrome), then I don't have it..."

Yes, indeed, Martha, *The Dot* is a yummy book.

i LOVE LOVE LOVE that one scene in the Jeff Bridges movie, Fearless, in which it shows a overhead view of artwork he has been collecting or doing. It in amazing. Has always stayed with me. Tried to find it on Youtube but I suck at that so I have nothing to post but my memory of that great scene.

Jess, you were the one who first turned me on to that movie. Great movie and that scene with the circle imagery *is* mind blowing.
Thanks for reminding me of it.

Thanks for visiting, Kat. I loved your site as well. We don't get to use the word antebellum around here, but your antebellum home looks glorious.
